Mod Description

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Deluxe (or more commonly known as Movie DX) is a quality of life mod for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie that aims to fix issues that ruin the game for some people, while adding a few visual touches. Major changes include easier Ring Challenges and lowered token requirements.

Download

Movie Deluxe

This google drive folder contains a download for the mod, a folder filled with custom textures used in the mod, and a Steamgrid folder in case you wish to add the mod to your Steam Library.

It also contains two text files that are highly recommended to be read.

Installation

Disclaimer: It is highly recommended that you create a backup of your TSSM iso. Just in case something in the mod installation process goes wrong.

1. Extract DX Gamecube and/or Xbox zip file to a folder

2. Have TSSM files from an unmodified game extracted to a folder:

  • Dolphin: Right Click a TSSM iso, click Properties, click Filesystem, then Extract Entire Disc and choose a location.
  • Xbox: FTP the files from your Xbox to your PC, or use a supported flash drive or other methods.

3. Copy the files from the DX mod and paste them over the original game's files.

  • In the zip mod file, you can CTRL+A to select all of the files, then Click+Drag these files over the ones from the original game. If asked to overwrite click Yes.

4. Now all you have to do is set up your method of playing:

  • Dolphin: Click Config, Paths, and click Add, then choose the "sys" folder from where you extracted the original disc (folder should have "files" and "sys"). If you want to build the mod as a rom, then check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK5HI6fQVK4
  • Xbox: Transfer the modded files back to your Xbox, go to the file explorer, and launch default.xbe from your game directory.

You should be all set to go, you will know that it's working if the logo on the title screen says "Deluxe."

Known Issues

  • Game may break when playing off a save file from an unmodified rom or other mod.

Change List

General Changes

  • A few OOB objects were restored/deleted.
  • The ability to warp to the challenge panels rather than the challenges themselves.
  • New Story FMVs.
  • Bash is unlocked by default.
  • Token Requirements are lowered
* Smash:  8
* SpongeBowl:  15
* Throw:  20
* Sonic Wave:  30
* Access to the Final Driving Level: 35
  • Manliness Points never decrease to 1 Point. This is to remove “anti-grinding.”
  • FMVS for moves and upgrades were extended to show you what the moves do.
  • Rearranged the Extras.
  • Combat Arena Challenges 1-3 receive complete makeovers.
  • All Floating Block Challenges are no longer timed.
  • Ring timers in driving challenges are longer.

3 rings are visible at the same time in Sliding levels. As a result of this, their times are also longer, to prevent rings from becoming permanently red. The same applies to Sonic Wave Challenges, only those have 2 rings visible.

  • A good chunk of Mindy voice lines are restored. Not all of them, but most of them.
  • “New” costumes for Shell City, Dead Ahead and its bonus challenges.

SCDA Part 1 on Gamecube still uses Trench Patrick, as using the “new” costume causes a crash at the Mini-Merv cutscene.

Gamecube Exclusive

  • Incorporated "Disable First Upgrade Point Textbox" by Eyepie (the upgrade textbox mod simply isn’t needed in the Xbox port.)
  • Incorporated "SpongeBob and Patrick Eyelids Fix" by MinecraftFreak73 (doesn’t work on Xbox.)

Level Specific Changes No Cheese

  • The stage was re-textured to resemble Jellyfish Fields, as I’ve always imagined this is where the level took place.
  • Z-Crates and buttons were added to show you that the Bash is unlocked by default.
  • All Z-Crates were turned into Krusty Krab crates.

My reasoning is the crates are actual supply crates for the Krusty Krab.

  • The crates on the truck were re-texture into giant Krusty Krab crates.

I’m Ready… Depression

  • All Z-Crates were turned into Goofy Goober crates.
  • My reasoning is the crates are actual supply crates for the Goofy Goober’s Ice Cream Party Boat.
  • Up Chocolate Creek
* Access to the challenge was modified to be possible in a legitimate upgradeless run.
* Springboards are added for the normal throw.
* The buttons no longer deactivate after mere seconds.
* The marshmallows in Up Chocolate Creek bob up and down, rather than flow down the creek (Credit to CornbreadSnake and his mod Movie SquarePants SpongeBob The)
  • You play as Drunk Patrick in the Combat Arena Challenge.

Sandwich Driving 101

  • A row of OOB crates were restored in an offroad section, to encourage finding shortcuts.

Three… Thousand Miles to Shell City

  • Skybox is changed to the default JF skybox.
  • Clouds are changed to desert clouds.

Rub a Dub Dub Slip Slide in a Tub

  • The only change is listed in General Changes.

Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt

  • The second Treasure Chest has been moved, so that you do not have to replay the entire level to have it reappear.
  • Added a 50 Point where the barrel used to be in the SpongeBall Room in Bubble Blowing Baby Hunt.
  • You play as Tug Tug SpongeBob in the Combat Arena Challenge.
  • Four Foggers that weren’t part of the Combat Arena Challenge were removed.

No Weenie Parking Allowed

  • Some rings are enlarged so it can be easier to get.
  • Gamecube Exclusive: The first Treasure Chest was moved (it’s still in the same path).

This is due to how the optional 60fps AR Code affects the Patty Wagon’s gravity, making it much harder to actually collect the chest.

I’ll Let You Pet Mr. Whiskers

  • You play as Thug Tug Patrick.

Rock Slide

  • Movie accurate skybox.
  • Clouds are removed.
  • Shortened the Hans Trigger near the first Lava Fall in Rock Slide.
  • Rock Slide's Macho Time Challenge is now 4:30.
  • The goo lakes inside each monster section are fixed.
  • In the original game, each monster section was supposed to have goo at the bottom of each section. But they’re invisible due to a glitch.

Now That We’re Men

  • The first area was renamed to “Trench Depths.”
  • Combat Arena Challenge’s intro has a warning.
  • A steam vent in the Bungee Challenge was restored.
  • The Turrets were re-textured to resemble monsters. (Or sus depending on how you look at it.)
  • The second area was renamed to “Trench’s End.”
  • The second area was re-textured to be a visual hybrid of Now That We’re Men and Shell City, Dead Ahead.
  • An unused gate in the second area was restored and modified.

Shell City, Dead Ahead

  • The first area was renamed to “Junk Valley.”
  • Some obstacles in the SpongeBall Challenge were slowed down.
  • The second area was renamed to “Toxic Pits.”
  • The oil in the final area was raised just a tad. In the original, it was low enough to allow you to see under the map.
  • A melon was added before the final section, and in the middle of the ambush arena.
  • Added a checkpoint at the end of “Three Meter Island.”

Name’s Dennis

  • The only change is listed in General Changes.

Sundae Driving

  • Some rings are enlarged so it can be easier to get.

Googly Eyes and Smelly Knick Knacks

  • Two cutscenes now activate without dying.

Dennis Strikes Back

  • You play as Thug Tug SpongeBob.

Welcome to Planktopolis… Minions

  • The first area was renamed to “Downtown Planktopolis.”
  • Two Mervs in the first area are replaced with Flingers.
  • All Poppers in the first area use their scrapped “V2” AI.
  • A cheap-shot Popper was removed.
  • The dreaded moving wall jump in the first area has been replaced by a normal wall jump.
  • More Bounce Please has a hint added in its textbox.
  • The second area has been renamed to “The Plungeon.” (The name is from BFBB Second Strike.)
  • The Turret has been re-textured to resemble a BFBB robot.
  • Some obstacles in the SpongeBall Challenge were slowed down.
  • Plankton’s Riddle has a hint added in its textbox.
  • Pillars were added near the final climb.
  • This is to save time when collecting everything.
  • 4 Mervs were removed in the final statue room.
  • The first 3 are just gone. The final one was replaced with 2 Slammers.
  • Made the Planktopolis SpongeBall Challenge easier to find.

Drive of the Knucklehead McSpazitron

  • Some rings are enlarged so it can be easier to get.
  • The triggers in the time challenges were moved to the finish line.

Turn the Tables on Plankton

  • The tables can be hit with both the Karate Spin and the SpongeBowl.
  • Flingers were re-textured to match their new Planktopolis appearance.
