BFBBMix is a full game custom level mod of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom created by skyweiss with help from other members of the modding community. Its name is a portmanteau of "BFBB" and "remix."

Known issues

  • It is highly recommended to enable autosave using the prompt that appears, as there is a low but nonzero chance of crashing at various loading zones throughout the game.
  • A softlock will occur if the player comes in contact with a Thunder Tiki while in Spongeball mode. If this happens, pause the game and warp to an available level to regain control.

  • Fixes an issue where you couldn't unpause with the Start button.
  • Various minor fixes and adjustments throughout the game.

How to make a Nintendont-compatible ISO

Extract the zip file, which will make a folder called "files". It's missing the "&&SystemData" folder which will be sourced from a copy of Battle for Bikini Bottom.

  1. Download GameCube Rebuilder and open it.
  2. Click Image, then select Open.
  3. In the window that opens, select your Battle for Bikini Bottom GameCube ISO file.
  4. On the right side of the program, a list of files appears. Right-click "&&SystemData" and click Export.
  5. In the window that opens, select the "files" folder.
  6. Click Image, then select Close.

Now that BFBBMix has all of its required files, we will create a new ISO file.

  1. Click Options, then select "Do not use 'game.toc'." This is necessary to load extra files, like the bonus stages.
  2. Click Root, then select Open.
  3. In the window that opens, select the "files" folder.
  4. Click Root, then select Save.
  5. In the window that opens, select any location for the ISO file.
  6. Finally, click Root, then select Rebuild.

You can now transfer the ISO to your homebrew Wii like any GameCube game. Press Y at the main menu to ensure you're good to go!

How to install on Xbox

To play the Xbox version, you need a softmodded Xbox console. You can get help with this in the BfBB speedrunning Discord.

Extract the zip file, which will make a folder called BFBBMix. It's missing the "default.xbe" file which will be sourced from a copy of Battle for Bikini Bottom.

  1. Copy the Battle for Bikini Bottom disc to your Xbox hard drive using the softmod menu. It is now the E:\Games\SpongeBobSquarePants folder.
  2. Now we need to transfer the BFBBMix folder to your Xbox hard drive. This is similar to transferring the Practice Mod or AutoCB, most conveniently through an FTP client. However you transfer it, it should now be the E:\Games\BFBBMix folder.
  3. Next, open File Explorer and have it set up like this: SpongeBobSquarePants on the left, and BFBBMix on the right. (You can move between the two explorers with the L and R triggers.)
  4. Scroll to "default.xbe" on the left. Press Start, then select Copy, then OK.
  5. Scroll to "default.xbe" on the right. Press Start, then scroll to and select Rename XBE Title. This allows you to type in a different name to distinguish BFBBMix from the original game.

After resetting the console, you will see BFBBMix in the games menu. Press Y at the main menu to ensure you're good to go!
